TOUR PROGRAM
day 1
LIMA
We meet in Lima, the capital of Peru on the Pacific coast. Lima was founded by the Spanish conquistadors, namely Francisco Pizarro. Impressed by the fantastic view of the Pacific Ocean, he built the new capital of Ciudad de los Reyes, or "City of Kings", on the site of an Indian village. The historic center of Lima is on the UNESCO world heritage list - palaces and monasteries have been carefully preserved, and elegant wooden balconies adorn beautiful houses.

Our first steps through Lima will take place tomorrow - today we are resting and recharging after our transatlantic flights in a stylish and comfortable 5* hotel overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

day 2
PARACAS
After a very hearty and delicious breakfast (one of our key selection criteria when choosing hotels), we suggest taking a stroll around Miraflores, the most prestigious area of Lima, which stretches along the ocean. We will see surfers riding the ocean waves, feel the salty breeze on our faces and come to the conclusion that the Miraflores embankment, with its black cliffs, foggy landscapes and the ocean is perhaps the most beautiful in the world.

Afterwards it's time to head out to the Paracas National Park (3.5-4 hours on the road), check in for 2 nights to our stunning 5* hotel overlooking the ocean, and rest.

After lunch we will take you to the place where the desert meets the ocean, creating a truly breathtaking view. We'll spend the evening enjoying the incredible beaches and taking photos of hundreds of seagulls.

day 3
BALLESTAS ISLANDS, ICA DESERT
AND THE HUAKACHINA OASIS
Early in the morning we will sail to the Ballestas Islands on our private boat. Get ready to see sea lions and penguins lounging on the rocky cliffs! Telephoto lenses are highly recommended, we don't want you to miss out on this fantastic photo opportunity!

In the afternoon we will go to the Ica desert to ride buggies - a unique experience that will definitely create long lasting memories! We will also stop by the very famous Huacachina oasis in the middle of the desert, where you'll get to try sandboarding on the dunes surrounding the water.

Then it's time to head back to the hotel for dinner and a well-deserved rest.

day 4
BACK TO LIMA
After the first busy days, it is important to rest in order to build up strength for the next adventures. Slowly we have breakfast, and then we go to Lima.

Today is a day of strolls along the promenade and chic restaurants.

And tomorrow - trip to Cusco!

day 5
CUZCO - URUBAMBA
After breakfast, we'll drive to Lima airport (1 hour) and fly to the capital of the Inca Empire - the city of Cuzco. We won't linger in Cuzco, which is located at an altitude of 3500 meters - we will have time to explore its treasures a little later. From Cuzco we will immediately go down to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, to the Urubamba Valley. It is located at an altitude of 2800 meters, and it is much better for adjusting and avoiding altitude sickness.

Despite its location in the Sacred Valley, there isn't a lot to see in Urubamba. We will, of course, explore the Sacred Valley later - but today is all about relaxing, adjusting to our new environment and chilling on the hotel terrace with the best mountain views.

We'll be dining in the hotel later in the evening.

day 6
MACHU PICCHU
This is the day you've all been waiting for - we finally get to see one of the seven wonders of the world; a city in the shape of a condor - the mysterious Machu Picchu.

The first leg of the journey will find us on a panoramic train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, a small stone town, vaguely reminiscent of European villages. From Aguas Calientes - which literally means 'hot waters', named for the natural hot baths found here, we'll begin our ascent to Machu Picchu.

Legend has it that the Incas left the city on the same night when the first Spanish ship anchored off the coast of Latin America. What remained is what we see today - ruins of ancient temples and houses surrounded by mountains.

We will go up to Machu Picchu and watch wisps of fog melt away in the sunlight. It truly will feel like this city is somehow suspended between heaven and earth. The houses are built of oddly-shaped stones, which somehow fit together perfectly, like a puzzle. And the triangular roofs seem to be an extension of the mountains behind them. The ancient Incas built this city to coexist harmoniously with the local landscape, organically fitting in rather than standing out.

We will walk along the streets of Machu Picchu, take a peek into some of the houses and imagine how the ancient Incas lived - walking along these streets, praying in the local temples, cultivating the land and wondering at the stars. They say that Machu Picchu has its own unique energy. Will you feel it?

In the evening we'll return to our hotel in the Sacred Valley of the Incas and toast to the fact that we've visited one of the seven wonders of the world!

day 7
MORAY - MORAS - OLLANTAYTAMBO
After breakfast it's time to explore the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Historians call this valley 'the cradle of the Inca civilization' - it is believed that almost half of the vegetables and fruits that fed the entire Inca empire were grown here. The Incas built terraces, grew corn and were the first in the world to plant and harvest potatoes!

Then we'll move to the town of Moray, where we'll see how the Inca agricultural terraces were arranged, which is really fascinating! They created a temperature difference of 15 degrees within the terraces and grew heat-loving coca on the lower steps, leaving the higher steps for less demanding produce. The concentric circles of the terraces are stunning, and we will learn what else the Incas grew here and how their unique draining system was arranged.

In the town of Maras, where we'll head to next, we will see the salt pans and learn how the Incas mined and evaporated salt. These pans are still active - they are distributed among the locals who produce salt using methods of the ancient Incas. Not only are these salt pans fascinating, they're incredible to look at as well, like seeing a patchwork quilt of snow-white crystals and red water.

The town of Ollantaytambo made its mark in history as the center of the resistance to Spanish conquistadors. When Pizarro's troops stormed the fortress, the Incas changed the course of the Patacancha River and flooded the approaches to the terraces. The Spaniards got bogged down in the mud, which is when the Incas launched an offensive, using arrows and stones. We'll climb along the terraces to the top of the fortress to take in the unfinished Temple of the Sun. Trust us, the temple's wall of six pink monoliths is no less impressive than Machu Picchu.

In the afternoon we will go to Cuzco, check into our 5* hotel in the city center, and relax in the pool and sauna.

day 8
CUZCO
After breakfast, we will go for a walk around Cuzco, the capital of the Inca Empire. Legend says this city was founded by Manco Capac himself - the founder of the Inca civilisation, the son of the Sun God and the Moon Goddess. Cuzco, translated from Quechua, means "navel of the earth" - rulers of the empire lived in luxurious palaces, and important religious ceremonies were held in magnificent temples. This is exactly how, at the peak of its prosperity, this city was seen by Francisco Pizarro - and he founded it anew, dismantling the Inca masonry and building colonial mansions on the foundations of the ancient palaces.

On the cobbled streets of Cuzco, we will learn to identify Inca masonry and spot the traces of the Incas in Spanish buildings. We'll talk about how the South American Indian empires were destroyed and how many executions the picturesque Plaza de Armas saw. We'll gaze upon the magnificent portals of the Cathedral, where Indian and European motifs are intertwined. And we'll try to picture what the Temple of the Sun might have looked like in Incan times, with its golden elements and majestic beauty.

We'll also stop by the Inca Museum, find out why the Incas grew coca, how they moved huge stones and how their burials were arranged. Interesting fact - the museum was built on the site of an ancient Inca palace.

And of course, we will get lost in the labyrinths of the San Pedro market, where we'll be dazzled by the bright colors of Peruvian bags, ponchos and blankets. And when the abundance of fruits and vegetables on display inevitably whets our appetite, we will lunch in a traditional Peruvian restaurant, where the most adventurous of us can try cuy chactado, also known as fried guinea pig.

After lunch we'll have some time to unwind back at the hotel - and later on, we'll go out for dinner to another fabulous Peruvian restaurant.

day 9
RAINBOW MOUNTAINS
Today we'll be climbing to a height of five thousand meters to admire the colorful stripes of Mount Vinicunca, also known as Rainbow Mountain!

It is a fairly recent discovery, because this mountain used to be covered with snow, but with the effects of climate change, the icecaps melted, revealing a patchwork of yellow, green, red and burgundy stripes that need no photoshopping to look stunning in photos. National Geographic even included Rainbow Mountain in their list of "100 Places to Visit in a Lifetime".

We'll have to get up early, becaue it will take us two to three hours to drive, then swap mechanic horsepower for actual horse power and climb to a height of 5200 meters to admire the colorful ridges of the mountains and the snow mass of Ausangate - the sacred mountain of the Incas in the Peruvian Andes.

On our way back, we will stop for lunch at a cosy cafe with home-style cooking, returning to our luxury hotel in the late afternoon.
